We are going on an international adventure this week learning about different places across the globe from Europe to Asia, Africa and Australia. We will enjoy African Drumming and Bollywood dancing workshops, we’ll learn to make pizza as we travel to Italy and we will jump around like kangaroos at the local park as we learn about Australia. Our menu this week is international and children will have the chance to try food from around the world. See below for what we have in store each day.
AROUND THE WORLD WEEK
Monday 12 August
Today we visit Africa and learn about this fascinating continent. We will enjoy a session with an African Drumming group, who will bring along drums for us to try. We will make rain shakers with rice and lentils, we will create tribal masks, a sword and shield, and we will play group games at the local park.
Tuesday 13 August
We are off to Italy next and the highlight today will be making our own pizzas to eat for lunch and enjoying a variety of Italian food today including gelato! We will make pizza magnets, a map of Italy using different pasta and mix media collage mood boards. We will finish the day making Italian sprinkle cookies and visiting the local park for some group games.
Wednesday 14 August
We are off to South Asia to the land of mystery and diversity – India! Today we will take part in a Bollywood Dancing Workshop with expert Bollywood Dancers. This is sure to be a fun and lively activity. There will be henna tattoos and glitter henna style tattoos for those wanting more bling. We will enjoy some delicious Indian food including samosas, butter chicken, naan bread, dips, lotus flower and jalebi ice-cream.
Thursday 15 August
Heading south we venture to China where we will make fortune cookies, Chinese boats with junk modelling, and Chinese dragon puppets, lanterns and fans. We will enjoy lots of scrumptious Chinese food including spring rolls, soup, a Chinese fruit platter with kiwi, Asian pear and lychee, and prawn crackers. Along with all of this there will be a trip to the local park for some group games.
Friday 16 August
Today we are going Down Under to the wide brown land that is Australia. To survive here you must have a hat, so we will make some Australian cork hats and make some kangaroo food for our furry friends. We will make koala shortbread, enjoy a special Aussie treat called Fairy Bread and produce some Indigenous artwork with dots. We will also design the Sydney Opera House using paper plates before heading out to the local park to enjoy some cricket.
Each day, children can take part in a variety of sport and physical activities like basketball, football, skipping, bouldering and bench ball, as well as enjoy a variety of free-time activities including board games, colouring in, Lego competitions, group games, and a wide selection of arts and crafts materials to choose from.
Please note: While we do plan to visit the park every day, this is weather dependent.
