Wise Owls goes into the Woods for the Summer Holidays

Cost: £37 per day with additional fees for some outings

This summer we will immerse ourselves in the outdoors, all of our activities and outings will be centred around nature, our environment and exploring the wonders of the woods. We aim to use as many natural materials and resources as possible throughout the summer.

Week 1 - Into the woods

To kick off the first week of Summer Holidays we will be growing our own Butterfly in the club to learn about life cycles. Activities on offer will be: Making woodland wind chimes, making hungry caterpillar kebabs, planting own flowers and making a nature boat. Our outing will be on Tuesday this week to Odeon Cinema for the latest film and a trip to Grenfell Park. As always, we aim to take the children to the park daily. We will have a variety of toys and activities set up over the week for the children’s enjoyment including construction, role play, messy play, art & crafts, water/sand play, circle time, story time and group games.

Week 2 - Into the woods

This week will be all about the mysteries which lie within the woods along with our favourite fictional characters. To start off the week we will make Gruffalo masks along with getting messy in the Gruffalo crumble messy tray, making stick man and his family, making bear paper bag puppets and baking berry tarts. On Wednesday our outing will be to the mysterious world of Tumblestone Hollow at Stonor Park by Mini-Bus. On Friday 29th July we will have a fairy tale dress up day with a fairy-tale tea party – children can come in dressed up as their favourite character. As always, we aim to take the children to the park daily. We will have a variety of toys and activities set up over the week for the children’s enjoyment including construction, role play, messy play, art & crafts, water/sand play, circle time, story time and group games.

Week 3 - Into the woods

This week will be about fairytales. Activities for children to choose from are: Making fairy dust necklaces, getting messy in sparkle slime, making twig magic wands, cardboard gingerbread houses from hansel & Gretel. In a group this week we will make a puppet theatre and make finger puppets from our favourite fairytales like little red riding hood, hansel & Gretel, winnie the pooh. Our outing this week will be to Ockwells Park in Cox Green via minibus on Wednesday, children will have a play in the park, a walk around the woods and a picnic. To finish the week we will make edible honey slime and bake oat biscuits to take home. As always, we aim to take the children to the park daily. We will have a variety of toys and activities set up over the week for the children’s enjoyment including construction, role play, messy play, art & crafts, water/sand play, circle time, story time and group games.

Week 4 - Into the woods

This week will be about the creatures and their habitats. Activities for children to choose from are: Making fox masks, making bird feeders for our own gardens, leaf lacing, decorating stones, salt dough leaves, making woodland bookmarks and baking hedgehog bread. Get messy digging for bugs in our green jelly messy tray. On Wednesday we will go to Boulters Lock where we will play in the park, and enjoy a picnic and ice cream after a stroll along the river. To finish the week, we will play woodland animal bingo. As always, we aim to take the children to the park daily. We will have a variety of toys and activities set up over the week for the children’s enjoyment including construction, role play, messy play, art & crafts, water/sand play, circle time, story time and group games.

Week 5 - Into the woods

This week will be about the colours within the woods. Activities for children to choose from are: Making egg carton poppies, sunflower paper plate craft, leaf painting, bark rubbings with various colours, making flower crowns and making fruit pizza’s inspired by insects. Get messy making fizzy cloud dough and making yummy avocado frogs. On Wednesday we will take a trip by train to Marlow Park for the day, we will feed the ducks, play in the park and have a picnic. As always, we aim to take the children to the park daily. We will have a variety of toys and activities set up over the week for the children’s enjoyment including construction, role play, messy play, art & crafts, water/sand play, circle time, story time and group games.

Week 6 - Into the woods

Become nature explorers this week hunting for bugs with magnifying glasses, making mini bug hotels, making our own twig & string spider webs, try out the exploding mud science experiment and going on a scavenger hunt when we visit Swinley Forest on Wednesday by minibus. We will spend some time in the wooden play park and then go exploring in the forest, we will spend some time building dens, hunting bugs and collecting items for our nature college. Baking this week we will make spider pizzas and delicious chocolate mud pies. As always, we aim to take the children to the park daily. We will have a variety of toys and activities set up over the week for the children’s enjoyment including construction, role play, messy play, art & crafts, water/sand play, circle time, story time and group games.

Week 7 - Into the woods

As we come to the end of the Summer Holidays we will put together our own scrap book of the adventures we have been on over the summer. Have fun playing in our ice tray with insects, nature tree craft, group activity hand painting a tree and taking part in our Woodland quiz in teams. On Wednesday we will have a visit from the popular Basil Farm who will bring with them their farm animals for the day. To finish the summer holidays on Thursday we will have a Disco in the afternoon along with a pizza delivery. As always, we aim to take the children to the park daily.
